Edward Field enlisted on the 26th June 1915 at Blackboy Hill Camp in Western Australia. He was employed as a carpenter, and had previously served for four years with the 2nd Derby Volunteers and two years with the 6th Battalion, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment.
He stated his next of kin as John Edward Field, of Wirksworth, later of The Bull's Head, Bradwell, Derbyshire. Five feet eleven and three quarter inches tall, he weighed 162 pounds, had a dark complexion, brown eyes and dark brown hair, and was a Congregationalist, and he had a four inch scar on the front of his right shin.
